Study of quality of life in the Mullerthal region

Origin of the project

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), ‘quality of life is a combination of psychological, physical, social and material factors that assess an individual’s well-being’.

In today’s society, public authorities are constantly developing programmes and policies to improve the quality of life of their citizens, either generally or for a particular segment of the population. Assessing quality of life is therefore a concept that should not be overlooked, as it can enable social bodies and associations to better target the needs and expectations of a population. It should be a prerequisite for any action.

Why this study?

Until now, the studies carried out in this field have been mainly at national level. It was therefore timely to look at a more local, regional approach that was closer to the target population and its needs. The quality of life study that we are proposing will therefore be the first to be carried out in the Mullerthal region.

What is the purpose of the study?

  • A current overview of the perception of the quality of life and social cohesion of the inhabitants of the Mullerthal region
  • Focusing more on the social needs of the Mullerthal region
  • Develop initiatives based on the results obtained
  • Developing social projects in synergy with local partners
  • Helping to improve the quality of life of Mullerthal residents

Collection method

The survey was carried out in the Mullerthal region, among residents of Beaufort, Bech, Berdorf, Consdorf, Echternach, Fischbach, Heffingen, Larochette, Nommern, Rosport-Mompach, Vallée de l’Ernz and Waldbillig.

It was drawn up in collaboration with the TNS Ilres polling institute.

Each resident of the Mullerthal received a letter in January 2021, inviting them to take part in the survey via a link to a website and a personal access code.. Participants then had to enter the code and start answering the questions.

The questionnaire was available in French, Luxembourgish, Portuguese and English.

To persuade residents to take part in the survey, a tombola was organised with many prizes to be won, consisting of regional products or activities. In all, some forty vouchers were distributed. We would like to extend our warmest thanks to all the sponsors who supported our initiative.

Presentation of results

The results of the survey were presented to the public on Tuesday 9 March 2021. This was also the occasion for the draw for the raffle prizes. The winning codes were published on the MEC asbl website from 10 March 2021. The winners were invited to contact the MEC to receive a collection voucher for their gift, which was sent by post.
