The Regional Neighbourhood Mediation Service was established as part of a collaboration with the LEADER Mullerthal and Miselerland local action groups, which ran from 2009 to 2013.
This is based on a feasibility study conducted between October 2007 and June 2008, involving more than 500 people living in the Eastern region of Luxembourg. This study revealed that there was interest in neighbourhood mediation, but also a willingness among some residents to engage in volunteer work related to mediation in the regions. In May 2013, collaboration with LEADER local action groups Mullerthal and Miselerland is coming to an end, but the service will continue thanks to subsidies from 15 municipalities. What is mediation?
Mediation is ‘a process, usually formal, by which a neutral third party attempts, through the conduct of a meeting, to enable the parties to compare their points of view and to seek, with his or her help, a solution to the disputes between them’.
