Move Together #Respect

Synopsis :

To raise awareness of the concept of Respect, the MEC asbl has created the Move Together #Respect photographic exhibition, comprising 18 panels and 6 banners.

The aim was to remind people of the importance of respect in everyday life, regardless of their beliefs, political convictions or social allegiances.

Eighteen sub-themes were therefore identified, and partners were invited to use their creativity to express their notion of respect through a photograph:

V.R (traffic), Planning Familial (sex), Info Handicap (disability), l’essentiel (communication), l’action Groupe Inter-Religions (religion), Families First Luxembourg -Croix Rouge luxembourgeoise (family).

All the photos were designed by Riyadh Almajmas, a photographer of Iraqi origin who arrived in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in 2016.

The exhibition has received financial support from the Oeuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte, BGL BNP Paribas, the Ministère de l’Egalité des Chances, the newspaper l’essentiel and the garage Kruft.

Inaugurated at the headquarters of BGL BNP Paribas in May 2018, it then travelled around Luxembourg:

« Des Mots pour Refuge »

Synopsis :

Since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, the humanitarian situation in Syria and neighbouring countries has continued to worsen. While the Arab and Western media focus on the political and economic consequences of the situation, little attention is paid to the growing number of internally displaced people and refugees, their stories, their suffering and their need for assistance.

Raising awareness of the humanitarian crisis in Syria and surrounding countries should be a priority for humanitarian organisations involved in responding to this crisis, as well as for civil society in Western and Arab countries. Because of the suffering and hardship they are going through, but also because of their extraordinary courage and vitality, the Syrian people deserve and need, now more than ever, to become a priority for the world once again.

In order to contribute to this objective, the exhibition we are proposing presents the public with a collection of personal stories of Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan, combining their stories, their voices and their images. The focus is on the tragedies experienced by each person in Syria, their current living conditions in their country of refuge, and their humanitarian needs.

« Femmes, Science et Technologies »

Synopsis :

Designed and produced by the Maison des Sciences de Liège, the exhibition is sometimes humorous in tone and comprises 45 informative panels, including 33 biographical panels of women scientists and 12 ‘Nobel Prize’ panels. It’s an excellent opportunity to highlight the often overlooked role played by women in the history of science, and to motivate young girls – potential scientists or technicians – to take up this type of study.

« Frauen im KZ Ravensbrück »

Synopsis :

The exhibition focuses on the women of the Ravensbrück concentration camp. 161 Luxembourg women known by name to date were imprisoned as victims of National Socialist tyranny in the Ravensbrück concentration camp.

This exhibition is dedicated to them, and to all the other inmates. The pupils and teachers who conceived and designed this exhibition wanted to share their impressions and stimulate intergenerational discussion. One pupil commented: “This part of our history must never be forgotten or even repeated! Every human being must help to prevent this.

The exhibition includes an outdoor area as well as several indoor spaces.

Exterior

The outdoor area, visible to all, announced and briefly explained the theme of the exhibition. On the outside walls, general information about the Ravensbrück concentration camp and the current Ravensbrück memorial were presented, as well as a list of the 161 known names of Luxembourg women imprisoned in the Ravensbrück concentration camp.

Interiors

These rooms offered detailed information on the following subjects:

  • From numbers to people
  • Identification of so-called protective prisoners in Nazi concentration camps
  • Children and births
  • Art as a form of resistance in the concentration camps
  • Concentration camp supervisors
  • A film made by students projected onto a stylised tree trunk in the interior centre.
