Objective

The Diversity4kids project was developed over two years, from 2013 to 2014. Its aim was to offer staff from primary schools and teachers from halfway houses joint training on the theme of diversity and gender in early childhood.

What is the purpose of training?

  • Promoting positive communication
  • Promoting openness to difference
  • Encourage links between the staff of the maisons relais and the basic schools, which will increase the effectiveness of the objectives sought, by creating a common line of conduct.
  • Identifying the sources of conflict, and how to prevent and transform them.
  • Updating techniques already learned
  • Acquire tools for resolving difficulties linked to diversity or managing conflicts.
  • Enabling every child to develop his or her potential
  • Supporting parents through practical measures to combat violence at school and bullying….
  • Improving working conditions and the school climate
  • Improving pupil/teacher and pupil/teacher relations
  • Encourage/help manage children’s emotions and reactions

Course content

A - Basic module (compulsory for all participants) - 9h

Introduction to diversity education and equal opportunities awareness.

B - Thematic modules (2 modules to choose from among the following 4) - 6h

  • Gender education
  • Self-esteem, emotions and the body
  • Discrimination and conflict
  • Games, books and spaces

C - Support modules (compulsory for all participants) - 3h

Exchange and cooperation monitoring

D - Carrying out an activity followed by a meeting with an instructor - 2 hours

Methods and target audiences

Methods

Diversity4Kids training offers :

  • practical tools: examples of activities for working on diversity,
  • interactive, fun educational activities,
  • learning by doing.


It will be given by trainers from the 4Motion association in the Luxembourg language. They will emphasise a participative and interactive approach that aims to put what is learnt directly into practice in the participants‘ daily lives. It will be tailored to their needs and expectations.

Target audience

The staff of halfway houses and basic schools in the Mullerthal region.
Diversity4Kids is recognised as part of the UFOCOR continuing education programme, is also recognised by SCRIPT and is supported by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry for the Family.

Partners

The Diversity4Kids course was created by the MEC asbl, based on the Gender4Kids course initiated by the equal opportunities departments of Bettembourg, Dudelange, Esch-sur-Alzette and Hespérange, in collaboration with the educational partner 4Motion.
It is part of a project funded by the LEADER Mullerthal local action group.

An award-winning project

The Diversity4Kids project received a Diversity Award from the Lëtzebuerg Diversity Charter Committee, with support from the European Union’s Progress programme and the Ministry for Family, Integration and the Greater Region.
